The Farmers

Our mission has been to turn our land into a self sustainable homestead, learning and growing together as we return to ways lost from our generation. We hope you follow along on our journey!

So you want to know our story, eh? Well here's the low down on how our Uprooted farm came to be:

It all began on a cold February day in 2017. I was tired of my job that gave me zero satisfaction, it seemed that the weekdays melted together and we were literally living for the weekend. I had just sat through an endless meeting thinking about how much time I had wasted. I got back to my sad little office and texted Ben. It simply read:

"I hate my job, let's grow beets together."

That was all it took to get the (metaphorical) beet rolling. From then on, a logo was sketched out on a scrap piece of paper, seeds were purchased online, ideas were sprouted between two minds and the idea that perhaps maybe this wasn't just a day dream, but something we could actually accomplish, a way of life we could work towards. The idea that you should work towards a purpose kept us working evenings and weekends in a part time side hustle. Our date nights turned into experimenting with planting seeds and building on our ideas. We couldn't stop talking about the next big plan we had. We both realized this was something we both had to seriously pursue.

Although we both still have full time jobs, and consider this our part time hustle, or more like an expensive hobby, we grow (produce and personally) every season into what we really want. We continue to learn every season about new ways to be self-sustainable on our land. We want to slow down the world around us and rediscover life's little pleasures. A deserved rest after a long day of hauling hay. Cooking your own food that you spent months tending to and nurturing. Being independent of the instability of the world has become our biggest purpose in the past few years.

With this website and farmer's blog, we hope to start writing about all of our triumphs and failures and things we have learned that might help you in your search for growth and change.

From our family to yours,

Kait & Ben
